UrbanFUTURE.
For the past 6 years, UrbanFUTURE has worked diligently
to address the fundamental issues keeping urban kids from
achieving their potential in the St. Louis Public Schools.
The five-year audited results of our effort are noteworthy: students read
two to three grade levels higher after only one
school year in UrbanFUTURE (UF) and student GPAs are more
than a full letter grade higher than non-UF

The outgrowth of our work has produced the UrbanFUTURE Academy,
a school within a school paradigm which currently
operates at Fanning Middle School located in the Tower Grove
neighborhood of south St. Louis city. At the core of the
UF/Fanning partnership is an extended school day, parent
leadership, teacher collaboration, a team mentoring approach
focusing on literacy, goal setting and character formation
and job readiness training. A well-trained community volunteer
mentor/tutor corps and an individually tailored action plan
for each student comprise the cornerstone of our success.
